Jorge A. Peña has over thirty years' experience handling insurance defense matters, including Federal Tort claims, automobile/trucking litigation and premises liability. He also has extensive experience in handling employment litigation, including workers' compensation and longshore workers' compensation claims. As a result, Mr. Peña has developed expertise in all areas of workers' compensation defense, including toxic exposure claims, policy coverage defenses, occupational disease claims and numerous high-value catastrophic claims where expertise in complex medical issues is necessary. Mr. Peña utilizes this expertise in advising employers and carriers on how to best handle and posture claims for minimal exposure during the process of defending his clients. His responsibilities include all aspects of litigation from the initial stages of a claim where communication with the employer and carrier is vital, to the ultimate conclusion, be it settlement or trial.
Mr. Peña's practice also encompasses handling civil litigation matters related to employment practices, including wrongful discharge, wage and hour violations and retaliatory discharge. Mr. Peña is state certified in legal instruction and experience conducting claims seminars certified for Continuing Education Credits to insurance adjusters, risk managers and employers on a broad array of topics.
Mr. Peña is AV rated my Martindale-Hubbel. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from West Virginia University and a Juris Doctorate from The Ohio State University. He is bilingual and a member of the Florida Bar, Workers' Compensation Section, Trial Lawyers Section, Dade County Bar Association, Broward County Bar Association, and the Cuban-American Bar Association. Mr. Peña is also admitted to the practice in the United States District Court, Southern District of Florida.
